The incident took place on Sunday when Vasavi Pattepur, a resident of Vaidyara in Haveri’s Hangal began experiencing labour pain ahead of her scheduled date. Her family called for an ambulance but was informed that it may take around 30-45 minutes for an ambulance to reach their place.
Her husband Raghavendra alerted their neighbours – Madhulika Desai, Ankita Vedambhattanavar, Jyoti Madi who offered to help her deliver. Vasavi had almost delivered the baby when the women reached the house.
A gynaecologist friend of one of the woman assisted the group over a video call on how to cut the umbilical cord by following all precautions.
