
High Court Rejects PIL Urging not to Declare Kappathagudda in Gadag as Reserve Forest

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on Thursday filed by local farmers urging not to declare Kappathagudda forest area in Gadag district as Reserve Forest. The decision taken by the high court would help the state government to take necessary steps to conserve the forest area and declare it as reserve forest to protect rich flora and fauna of the area. Kappathagudda forest also contains valuable Ayurvedic herbs, medicinal plants and others. Earlier, the state government had decided to declare Kappathagudda as reserved forest. However, a PIL by local farmers’ had stalled the government’s move temporarily.
