Huge demand for ‘Chandini’ in fish market!

Malpe: Even as the amount of fresh fish from the sea depletes at the fish market with the arrival of monsoon, the markets start receiving fish fresh water sources. Thus, the rare fish identified as ‘Chandidni’ caught through angling from the dam in Uttara Kannada district has started entering the fish market.
This fish looks like Kemberi fish from the sea and even tastes like it. Hence, customers prefer to buy this fish. This fish has also gained a market in the hotels.
The fish costs Rs 300 per kg. One may find a fish weighing up to 3 kg being sold by the fisherwomen in the market. This rare fish found in fresh water is also reared at some places in the hinterland. Merchants procure the fish and then sell it. Once a customer buys this fish, he will surely return for another, informs Baby Salian, a fisherwoman.
