Bengaluru: It has been one week on Wednesday since the indefinite freight transport lorry strike began in Karnataka amidst fear of steep hike in prices of essential commodity including vegetables and food grains.

Meanwhile, people were relived after a few lorries supplied some essential goods to the markets.

Talks with lorry owners managed to reduce the effect the strike would have on common man as some of the lorries continued to supply goods.

It is now learnt that All India Motor Transport Congress is planning to hold nation-wide strike from April 8 and if this strike began, it is expected to hit normal life.

No scarcity of essential commodities has been reported from any part of Karnataka. It is said that in some areas, KSRTC buses are being used to transport vegetables and other goods.

Auto rickshaw Drivers’ Union Association, functioning under CITU in the state capital, though continue to function as usual have extended support to the lorry strike protesting the third party insurance fee change from Rs 4,700 to Rs 6,900.

Sources say that on Wednesday, as many as 200 lorries in the state capital supplied essential commodities vegetables, fruits and pulses.

Tankers transporting petroleum products including petrol, diesel and LPG have not yet joined the strike.
