Vijayapura: Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, a BJP leader from Vijayapura, has stirred up a new controversy after asserting that he would have intellectual people shot if he was the Home Minister.

Addressing a public gathering on “Kargil Vijay Diwas” in Vijayapura, he stated, “These individuals (intellectual people) live in this nation, breathe our air, drink our water and utilize every facility for which we pay tax. Then they raise mottos against the Indian Army. Our nation faces grave danger from intellectuals  and seculars, more than any other individual. If someone like me becomes the Home Minister, I would order to shoot them,”

Amid the speech, Basanagouda named intellectuals as anti-nationals, and questioned their wisdom for making allegations against the Indian Army.

Both Congress and JD(S) have asked to take action against Yatnal.
