Illegal sand mining: 17 boats seized

Mangaluru(Adyar): In a surprise raid conducted by the officials of Department of Mines and Geology, 17 boats engaged in illegal sand mining were seized here at Adyar Arafa Dakke on November 28.
The officilas raided the boats in the midnight. However, the people who were in the boats managed to make a quick escape.
The raid was headed by Mr. Niranjan, head of district geological and mining department, accompanied by Kankanady police along with officers R K Murthy, Chennappa and Sudarshan of the mining department.
