‘Insects found in Belthangady not locusts’

Belthangady: The agriculture department officials who visited district after receiving information about the locust invasion clarified that the captured insects are desert locusts that attacked north India.
Pictures of some captured insects were sent to entomologists who have opined that the insects are not desert locusts but maybe a colour grasshopper.
Joint director of Dakshina Kannada district agriculture department MC Seetha informed the farmers that there was no need to panic
Villagers in and around Shiralu village in the taluka were shocked to see the swarms which they believed are desert locusts that have been causing concern in northern India and neighbouring Pakistan.
