Mangaluru: Junction development works at various places in the city has been initiated by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The development works have been initiated at Lal Bhag, Bejai, Karangalpady, Bunts Hostel and at various bus tops in the city. Special importance has been given to the junction development work with reason for buses to stop at the bus bays.

Work locations

The development of Lal Bhag junction has been taken at the cost of Rs 60 lakh. The plan is to develop the drainage, footpath and free left turn road. This will be extended till the front side of Karavali Ground. The road from Bejai church to Vivekananda Park road will be developed at the cost of Rs 1.13 crore.

In Karangalpady, the road from the market to Medicare Centre will be developed at the cost of Rs 75 lakh and the Woodland Hotel road in the same area will also be developed at the cost of Rs 90 lakh. Since there was difference in the concrete work done earlier at the bus stop limits in front of T M A Pai Hall, the contractor responsible for the work has started the concrete work here again. In this way there will be proper facility for the buses to stop here. The development work under the Premier FIR at B V road, S L Mathais road at Attavar has already been completed, informed sources from MCC.

Traffic facing problem

Though junction development work has been taken up at various places in the city with the aim to solve traffic problem, the very works taken up are consequently increasing the traffic density. In the backdrop of the rain coming in the evening since a few days, it has caused much inconvenience to the localites. On one hand the traffic is built up by the buses stopping in the middle of the road,   on the other hand, the road being dug up for development work while it’s raining is causing another problem. Amidst this, the traffic block problem has only increased with the excuse of road works even when city will have an inflow of people because of the Navaratri celebrations, is the allegation being heard.

Aim is to develop junction

“The junction development work has been taken up to systematically develop the junctions which are the root cause for the traffic and other problems in the city. Though the citizens will face a bit of problem at some places due to the works, they need to cooperate from the point of view of the city’s future. The work will be completed in a few days following which the junctions will be available to the people in a good way,” said Bhaskar K, Mayor.
