Kannur airport: 60 kg gold, saffron worth Rs.30 lakhs seized in first year of operation

Kasaragod: Kannur International Airport celebrated its first anniversary on December 9. Nearly 60 kg of gold and Rs 30 lakh worth of saffron have been confiscated by the customs officials at the airport in the first year of the airport’s operations.
Additionally, Rs.60 lakhs worth of undeclared foreign currencies too were caught by customs officers.
Notably, most of the persons arrested, in the foiled smuggling attempts were residents of Kasaragod district. Customs is aware of such criminal networks operating from here but have been unable to crack it.
