Karkala: Jagdish Prabhu, a resident of Kadari in the taluk here has been turning discarded truck tyres into garden beautification items.
Prabhu stumbled upon this novel idea while browsing YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
He collects trucks tyres that would otherwise be burned, cuts them into different shapes with special blades and paints them.
To date, he has made 30 decorative tyre items including vases.
“What started out as a hobby is now garnering demand. Radial tyres are easy for this task. Growing plants in these redesigned tyres provide ample room for them,” said Prabhu.
Earlier Prabhu had also invented a new method of pumping water from wells using PVC pipes.
