Karnataka: Govt levies additional 11% excise duty on liquor

Bengaluru: The State government on Wednesday, May 6 announced an 11 percent excise duty on alcoholic beverages, which is in addition to 6% additional excise duty announced in this year’s budget

As per sources, the new rates would come into effect from Thursday.

The government is also set to expand the liquor chain in the state by opening 450 new liquor outlets. Private players are also seeking a license to start new outlets, informed sources.

This move comes after, two states, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh government had announced a hike on liquor prices to discourage the boozers from consuming more alcohol in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
