Karnataka govt to resume social security payments; approves Rs 3500 cr

Bengaluru: The State government has sanctioned Rs 3,500 crore on various social security schemes that were stalled over the last five months due to COVID-19-induced economic crisis bringing relief to lakhs of beneficiaries.
The money under the schemes of Sandhya Suraksha, Manaswini and Maitri along with old age, widow and disabled pensions will be transferred to the bank accounts of 66,28,341 beneficiaries, official sources informed.
The State government will also be investigating a scam in the linking of Aadhar numbers with the old-age pension scheme.
The scam came involves the names of more than 3.50 lakh beneficiaries of Bengaluru. Due to frequent change in the addresses of many beneficiaries, it was difficult to check false beneficiaries. However, with Aadhar-linking the scam was caught.
Already the scam has resulted in the suspension of 9 officials including a postman and a village accountant in Hassan.
