Karnataka HC gets five additional judges

Bengaluru: The President of India on Thursday appointed five new judges to the Karnataka High Court. A notification in this regards was issued by Rajinder Kashyap, Joint Secretary to the Government of India.
Of the new appointees, Ashok G. Nijagannanavar, Hettur Puttaswamy Gowda Sandesh, Krishnan Natarajan would serve as the additional HC judges for a period of two years effective from the date they assume charge of their respective offices whereas Prahladarao Govindarao Mutalik Patil and Appasaheb Shantappa Bellunke would serve as additional judges till February 19, 2020 and August 2, 2019 respectively as they would superannuate on these days.
Apart from the new appointments, made on the basis of the seniority, the President of India appointed seven additional judges of the Karnataka High Court as permanent Judges.
Notably the number of judges in the Karnataka High Court has gone up to 33 with these appointments as against the sanctioned number of 62 judges.
