Karnataka: SSLC exam completed amidst COVID-19 concern

Bengaluru: Amid fears of increasing COVID-19 cases in the State, the SSLC examinations have been successfully conducted.
The examinations which began on June 25 ended on July 3.
The examinations, scheduled in March, was postponed due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown. The government then planned to conduct the examinations from June 25 on the advice of experts.
Neighbouring States of Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh decided to cancel their exams and promote the students. In the State as well, there were demands that the examinations should not be conducted and there were protests for the same.
The government had taken a number of precautionary measures during the examinations such as sanitizing school classrooms, buses for students and thermal screening before entering the classroom.
Nurses were arranged in each examination centre and masks were distributed to each student. Students who were ill were seated in a separate room.
Speaking on the occasion, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said that the examinations were conducted with the successful coordination of all the departments.
He announced that the results of the examinations will be published in the first week of August.
Students who could not attend the exam with good reason need not fear. Regular candidates will be allowed to write the exam in the supplementary examinations, he added.
He thanked the Chief Minister, members of the Cabinet, local people’s representatives and the positive response of opposition leaders for the successful completion of the examination.
