Kasargod: A Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist was stabbed to death while another person sustained injuries in suspected political rivalry here on Wednesday night.
The deceased identified as Ouf Abdul Rahman (30) was stabbed in the chest and was immediately rushed to a hospital where he breathed his last. His friend Shuhaib stands hospitalised and is said to be in a serious condition.
According to reports, Rahman and Shuhaib were headed towards Kadappuram, when few persons intercepted their bike and assaulted them. The gang immediately fled the spot after the assault.
Two of Rahman’s friends who were arriving on another bike rushed them to a hospital with help of locals but Rahman passed away due to his injuries.
DYFI activists allege that Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) were behind the alleged incident, a charge denied by the latter.
On December 16, Muslim League workers had attacked the house of their own party member in Kallooravi alleging he did not vote for the party in local body polls. Following this clashed had erupted in the area.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating if the violence on the counting day and Wednesday’s murder were linked.
