Kabaka: An elderly couple has alleged that three among their nine children had driving them out of their home at Beetige in Kedila village and then demolishing the house by employing a backhoe.

The currently homeless senior citizens are identified as Mohammed (75), resident of R K Manzil at Beetige, Kedila village, and his wife, Khateejamma (72). Both of them have suffered injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Puttur.

In his complaint to the police Mohammed states, “My four sons and five daughters have been living separately after their marriages. I and my wife are the only ones to live at our home at Beetige. I went to Nandila, where the father-in-law of my second son, Ismail, resides, to attend the marriage ceremony of his daughter on April 6.   We returned to our home at Beetige on May 10. We requested our son, Ismail, to take care of us as we have become old. He accepted, dropped us off at our home and returned, duly promising to come back in the evening.”

“After he left, my third son, Tajuddin, who lives at Budoli, his wife, Yasira, fourth son, Samshuddin who lives at Kabaka and his wife, Fatima,   second daughter, Aisamma and her husband, Mohammed, and my daughter’s son, Haris, suddenly came to our home in two cars and a motor bike. Without giving any advance intimation, they began to demolish our home with the help of a backhoe. Me and my wife stayed put inside the house and refused to budge from there. They forcibly dragged us out, and placed us under a coconut tree. They then demolished our home with the backhoe. After I conveyed this information to my second son, Ismail, he informed the police. The police then came to the spot and stopped the backhoe from undertaking demolition further,” he states.

Mohammed and his wife were living in their house built in a land measuring 22 cents at Beetige. He says that he and his wife were injured when they were dragged out of their home, and that they have got admitted into hospital for treatment. The town police have visited the injured couple and collected information. Meanwhile, the accused Ismail has claimed that the act was committed since they wanted a share in the land.
