Koo App: All you need to know about the Indian alternative to Twitter
Team Udayavani, Feb 11, 2021, 12:18 PM IST
Koo is a microblogging site like Twitter. It was launched in March 2020 and won the Prime Minister’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge in August.
The microblogging site was co-founded by entrepreneurs Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidwatka. Radhakrishna had founded online cab booking service TaxiForSure, which was subsequently sold to Ola Cabs.
Koo app gained popularity after Twitter refused to take down some content that the government had ordered it to remove.
The idea behind the app was to allow Indian users to share their opinions in local languages. The app is meant for people to express thoughts, opinions, and strike a discussion on trending topics.
One can post opinions on Koo publicly and follow other users as well. The character limit for a ‘Koo’ is 400. One can sign up for Koo using their mobile number.
The Koo app is joined by the Ministry of IT, MyGov, Digital India, UMANG app, Digi Locker, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anil Kumble, and more famous personalities and departments.
