Kundapura: Son dies soon after mother’s death

Kundapura: A tragic incident occurred in the town here today, a mother and son duo died within an hour.

The deceased, Shakuntala Shet (82), is the wife of the former owner of Maharaj Jewellers in the town. Her son, Prashant Shet (45) is the present owner of Maharaj Jewellers.

Shakuntala died at about 12:45 am on June 12 at her residence. Within an hour of her death, Prashant died of a heart attack.

Shakuntala has four sons and two daughters and resides in the Shantiniketan ward of the town. Prashant, the third son, was unmarried. He was an active member of the Kundapura Jewelers Association.

The funeral of the mother and son was held in the presence of friends and family at the Hindu crematory on Chikansal Road on Saturday, June 13.

The Jewelers Association which includes most of the gold shops in Kundapur had closed their shops on Saturday as a mark of respect to the deceased.
