Lack of breast milk: new mother commits suicide

Moodbidri: Unable to bear the tension of her lack of breast milk, a new mother who had given birth to her daughter 3 months back resorted to the extreme step of committing suicide at her parent’s home. This heart rending incident took place on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased new mother has been identified as Divya (24), wife of Ranjit of Ujire Kuvettar. It is being said that, Divya was staying at her parent’s place at Shantiraj colony in Pucchamogaru and used to frequently express her pain on her inability to produce enough breast milk to feed her daughter, with her mother.
On Tuesday afternoon, Divya committed suicide by hanging herself with the help of a chudidar shawl, after Divya’s mother had gone out to Siddakatte on a shopping errand, it is being said.
When the mother returned from Siddakatte, she found the house door locked and the baby was crying inside the hose. Divya’s suice came to light only after the roof tiles of the house were removed with the assistance of the localities to gain access to the house. A case has been registered at Moodbidri police station and the investigation is ongoing.
