Leprosy identification programme will be conducted once again from Aug 14th to 27th. This activity is being conducted as the second phase of ‘Ashwamedham’ programme which in an important attempt to identify leprosy patients still existing in the society and provide them with effective treatment. Trained volunteers are visiting door to door and conducting inspection for skin diseases regarding leprosy. This inspection is being conducted by a team made of one Asha worker and one male volunteer. 1634 teams have been created in the district with this aim. Health Inspector and Public Health Nurse have been provided with the responsibility to conduct a comprehensive inspection of those suspected to have been infected by the disease.

Treatment for the patients has been made available at all the government hospitals. If treatment is provided in the beginning itself, then the loss of limbs can be prevented and the disease itself can be healed completely. Besides, any stage of the disease can possibly be cured.
