Udupi: A young tourist swimming at Malpe beach was rescued from drowning by the alert lifeguard staffs at the beach on Saturday morning June 8th. The rescued tourist has been identified as Masood Pasha (28) from Bhadravathi.
On Saturday, Mr Pasha had come to the beach accompanied by several of his friends and ventured into the waters. With the monsoon on the verge of arrival, the sea had turned choppy since a few days. Hence, the youth swimmers were all of a sudden ensnared by powerful waves.
However, the alert lifeguards team here led by Madhukar Salian noticed the commotion and instantaneously rushed to rescue the youth.
Precautionary measures
The team managing the beach informed that precautionary measures similar to last year would be implemented to stop the tourists from entering the sea by erecting protective fence with the help of nets along the edge of the beach. The precautionary measures are being implemented since the sea turns treacherous with the onset of monsoon season.
