‘Magic’ mushrooms grow in US man’s blood after he injects it in form of tea

A 30-year-old US man was hospitalised with organ failure after he injected himself with a tea made from psychedelic mushrooms, which later started growing in his veins.

As reported by Business Insider, according to a case report out this week in the Journal of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry,  the 30-year-old man’s family brought him to a Nebraska emergency room after they noticed he seemed confused. The report said that his liver was damaged and his kidneys weren’t functioning properly.

The man had bipolar disorder type 1, the doctors who wrote the case study learned, and he hadn’t been taking his medications, so had been going through manic and depressive episodes. Doctors said he had tried to use the so-called “magic” mushrooms as an alternative treatment for his bipolar disorder.
