Mulki: “Making property card mandatory for land deals under the limits of Mulki town is unlawful. If this is implemented by force, protest will be held,” threatened BJP MLA of Mulki-Moodbidri constituency, Umanath Kotian speaking at a press conference on Thursday, May 16.

“Property card was implemented on an experimental basis in the corporation limits of Mangaluru from February 1, 2019. However, it had many drawbacks and it was not lawful also. So the same was stopped in the city of Mangaluru from May 15. But making the same mandatory suddenly in the town limits of Mulki is not fair at all,” he complained.

“Property card is unscientific and troublesome for the people of the whole district. The city dwellers have vehemently opposed its implementation. In addition, the same is not implemented anywhere in the state. So this should not implemented in Mulki for any reason. I will appeal to the chief minister and revenue minister with regards to this issue. I will support the property card system, only if the drawbacks in it are rectified and the same is implemented throughout the state,” he said.

“We already have many issues which do not have solutions. Another chaotic situation should not be created in the midst of this. If property card is implemented by force, intense protest will be held,” he warned.

It worth noting that as per the Mulki sub-registrar, property card has been made compulsory for only one village in Surathkal, which falls under the limits of Mulki. All other villages within Mulki su-registrar limits are free from this rule.
