Udupi: Man accused of multiple thefts held; valuables worth Rs 7 lakh seized

Udupi: Brahmavar police officials have arrested a man accused of multiple thefts in Udupi.

The arrested accused has been identified as Vijay Bhasker Shetty, a resident of Kadoor village.

Between March and April 2022, he broke into Sadashiva Mahabaleshwara Rao’s old home in Kadoor village and took 1,40,000 rupees worth of chilies.

In 2022, jewellery worth Rs 5,19,000 was stolen from the house of Vani Bhandary of Yadthadi village and Sujata Shetty in Kota.

He has two theft cases pending at the Puttur police station, four cases at the Mangaluru Bunder police station, one case at the N R Pura police station in Chikkamagaluru, one case each at the police stations in Harihar and Agumbe, two cases each at the police station in Tunga Nagar, and one case each at the police station in Brahmavar.

In the majority of the cases, he has fled without showing up in court, and a non-bailable warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was arrested after Anantapadmanabha, CPI Brahmavar, and SP Akshay M. H. formed a police team to nab the culprit accused of several theft cases reported at night in Brahmavar and Kota police stations.

The team intercepted an old theft suspect Vijay Bhasker Shetty’s Honda Matrix scooter in Kadoor village, and found tools used in the robberies.

A Honda Matrix scooter worth Rs 30,000, jewelry worth Rs 4,64,700, silver jewellery worth Rs 2,080, a saree worth Rs 9,000, cash Rs 84,000, and a gas cylinder worth Rs 2,800 have been seized from the accused.
