Man arrested for smuggling gold concealed in rectum at MIA

Mangaluru: Based on credible information, Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport on Thursday, January 21 intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai and recovered gold of 24k purity valuing around Rs 44.2 lakhs from his possession.

The passenger, Ubaid Baliyath Azeez, a native of Madikeri who arrived via Air India flight IX 1814 had concealed 0.8kg gold in paste form in rectum.

Commissioner of Customs Imamuddin Ahmed, IRS commended officers of Mangalore Air Customs team led by Dr.Kapil Gade IRS, Deputy Commissioner, and officers Shrikanth. K, Superintendent; Manokathayini, Superintendent; Ashish Kumar, Inspector and others for their consistent anti-smuggling efforts
