Man gets 10 years RI for sexual assault on minor

Mangaluru: Puttur Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a youth convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl in the year 2016.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the accused, identified as Ravi T Naika of Nekkiladi.
on October 21, 2016, the accused had taken the victim to an isolated place and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
A complaint was filed by the victim’s mother at Uppinagady police station. Inspector Anil S Kulkarni had filed a chargesheet in the court.
In its verdict, the court directed that a sum of Rs 35,000 be given to the victim from the fine amount collected. The court also ordered the district legal services authority to pay Rs 2.50 lakh as compensation to the victim.
