Man sentenced to 5-yr SI for sexual assault on minor

Mangaluru: A special court handling cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the second additional district and sessions court on Monday sentenced a man, convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl to five years imprisonment.
Athiqur Rehman Laskar fron Assam was held guilty under IPC Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Section 10 of the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting the girl in the year 2018.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by the victims father at Panambur police station,
Judge B R Pallavi awarded five years of simple imprisonment to Athiqur and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000. In case the accused fails to pay the penalty, he will have to undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
The judge ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay suitable compensation to the girl. Out of Rs 5,000 fine imposed on the accused, Rs 3,000 will have to be paid to the girl.
