In the meantime, Sheikh contracted history-sheeter Abdul Salam to find the gold from Mahaz or kill him.

Salam and 8 other of his accomplices were arrested while were waiting in two cars at a distance outside Mahaz’s house at Beluvai in Moodibidri on May 24 to confront and kill Mahaz if he refused to divulge information on his accomplices.
