Mangaluru: An apartment in the city imposed Rs 53,000 for failing to sort the garbage in spite of instructions from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).
The MCC had directed all the apartments in the city to properly segregate garbage into dry waste and wet waste.
Wet waste has to be processed and used by the apartment while the dry waste is carried by the garbage collection vehicles. The MCC had warned that it would impose a penalty for non-compliance with this instruction.
However, an apartment at Chilimbi did not pay heed to repeated instructions as above. MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar, visited the apartment concerned on Sunday, June 6, and conducted an inspection.
The civic body took serious notice of this violation and imposed a fine of Rs 500 to each of the flats in the building. The apartment has also been warned of severing the water connection if it fails to pay the fine.
