Mangaluru City Corp’s Mayor and Deputy Mayoral election on March 2

Mangaluru: The Mayor and Deputy Mayoral polls for the 33rd term of City Corporation will be held on March 2.

Current Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar’s term ends on February 28.

Reservations for the 33rd Mayor and Deputy Mayor were already announced, with the Mayor reserved for general category and deputy mayor reserved for the woman and general category.

It was reported that senior member in the Corporation from the ruling BJP Premananda Shetty might be the frontrunner for the Mayor’s post.

In the general election to the Corporation in November 2019, the BJP won 44 seats, Congress 14 and SDPI 2. Due to confusion over the Mayor and Deputy Mayor reservation, Corporation members could not take office for 3 months.
