Mangaluru: Gang intercepts fish Merchant’s tempo, assaults & robs him of Rs 2 lac

Mangaluru: A 47-year-old man, a fish merchant by profession was assaulted and robbed of Rs two lakhs in cash near Netravati Bridge, Ullal here on Saturday, March 5 morning.
The victim, Mustafa, a resident of Ullal Mukkacheri sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thokottu.
The incident took place at around 6.15 am when Mustafa was headed to Mangaluru dock to purchase fish in his Tata Ace tempo. A gang who arrived in a Ritz car intercepted his vehicle. Mustafa got down from his vehicle and confronted them for repeatedly honking and blocking his vehicle. It is said that two of the three-member gang got down from the vehicle and stole Rs two lakh cash that was kept in the tempo’s dashboard by holding Mustafa at knifepoint. In a bid to resist their attack, Mustafa reportedly held on to the knife and was injured when the robbers pulled the weapon away.
A passerby who noticed an injured Mustafa rushed him to the Netaji Hospital here.
Kankanady police have registered a case and have examined the CCTV footage to identify the assailants.
It is suspected that people who were acquainted with Mustafa might have been involved in the incident.
