Mangaluru: An accused in a Rs 3 lakh cheque bounce case has gone absconding to evade arrest.

The accused is identified as Chanchalakshi, president of Konaje gram panchayat.

A complaint in this regard was filed by Mamatha, a resident of Ullal with Konaje police.

In her complaint, Mamatha claimed that Chanchalakshi had requested for a monetary loan stating that she was in financial distress. As the complainant was acquainted with Chanchalakshi she lent her Rs 2.5 lakh initially and later Rs 50,000. To avoid any suspicions, Chanchalakshi gave a post-dated cheque for the entire borrowed amount to Mamata with an assurance of clearing the same in three months.

Mamatha encashed the cheque after the three months period but to her shock, it bounced. Following this, she moved the court to recover her money. Since Chanchalakshi skipped the court hearings on the case, the court on January 7 issued an arrest warrant against her. However, the police Mamatha claimed did not take any action against the accused.

When she raised the issue with higher police officials, a team of personnel accompanied Mamatha to Chanchalakshi’s house in order to arrest her. But her door was bolted and she was absconding.

Mamatha alleged that she has been running from pillar to post at the police station in order to recover her money from the accused.
