Mangaluru: Many villages from Belthangady taluk have reported to the district administration of swarms of locust-like insects attack their crops.
Villagers in and around Shiralu village in the taluka were shocked to see the swarms which they believed are desert locusts which have been causing concern in northern India and neighbouring Pakistan.
The agriculture department of the district immediately left for the villages after receiving information about the locust invasion.
Pictures of some captured insects were sent to entomologists who have opined that the insects may not be desert locusts but colour grasshopper.
