Mangaluru: The district administration here has stated that till March 31 of this year Rs 42,11,630 was collected as penalties from violators of COVID-19 guidelines in the district.
The administration had recently increased the penalty amount to be paid for violations by individuals and entities. This was done in wake of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV had himself conducted inspections across places in the city and district on March 22 to check adherence to the guidelines.
The DC has said that people should follow the guidelines out of concern for themselves and their families and not because it is mandated by the government.
