Mangaluru: The management of a group of educational institutions here have sumbitted a protest letter to the Mangaluru civic authorities on its decision to change the name of a junction here.
The City Corporation recently decided to rename the Ladyhill Circle as Sri Narayana Guru Circle.
The Ladyhill group of educational instutions, whose name became synonymous with the junction near it, has objected to the renaming.
In a statement, people related to the institutions said that they believe it would ‘hurt the feelings’ of former students who studied in these institutions and the name Ladyhill also stands as a ‘mark of respect’ to the Prime Minister’s women empowerment campaign Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.
The statement adds that those girl and women students who were educated in the institutions here will have their ‘feelings of nationalism shattered’ if the name of the junction is changed.
It further recommends that instead of changing names of roads and other places it would be better if the ‘leaders concentrate on developemnt works and the Mangaluru Smart City project.’
