Mangaluru: Rs 58,400 collected as fines for not wearing masks

Mangaluru: From the past three months officials have collected Rs 58,400 fine from those who were seen moving within municipal corporation limits without a facemask.

The government had made it mandatory for everyone to wear a facemask while venturing outside their house as COVID-19 cases increased in the country. It had instructed all local bodies to collect fine of Rs 200 from those violating this rule.

Senior Health Inspector in the City Corporation’s Health Department Shivalinga has stated that in the past three months about 292 people have been fined for violating the lockdown guideline on waering facemasks.

Everyone caught without a facemask is fined and then given instructions on the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, he added.
