Mangaluru: The tollgates at Talapady, Suratkal, Sastan, Hejamady and Bantwal became operational on Monday, April 20 amid COVID-19 lockdown.

The government may have extended the nationwide lockdown till May 3, but the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), struggling with poor financial health started a collection of toll charges from vehicles on Monday.

Meanwhile, the vehicles that passed through Sastan tollgate in Udupi district, struggled to go through the tollgate as only two gates were open and there was considerable movement of vehicles between 7 am and 11 am and irked by the people demanded the opening of more gates so that the vehicles need not wait for long at the tollgate.
