MIA: Customs officials foil gold smuggling attempt

Mangaluru: The customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport successfully caught a passenger who had arrived from Dubai and was attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs 19.62 lakh.
The accused arrived from Dubai in an Air India Express flight and had concealed the precious metal in form of paste within his body. However, the customs sleuths managed to find the 524.78 grams of the noble element on the person.
It may be noted that, just 3 days ago, the customs officials had seized 487.110 gm of gold worth Rs 18.21 lakh in the form of paste at the airport. Thus, the customs officials have foiled two attempts of gold smuggling within a week.
