Raichur: In a shocking incident, the burnt body of a 23-year-old girl, who went missing on April 13 was found hanging from a tree in a farm located behind the Husukina Hanumantha Temple close to Manik Prabhu Layout in Raichur district on Tuesday.

Madhu Pathara, a student of engineering is the deceased person.

While it is being suspected that the victim’s perpetrators raped, tortured and forced her to write a suicide before killing her, the police investigating the case said that the charge of rape is yet to be confirmed and a medical report is awaited.

As per her fellow students, Madhu had attended her college on April 13 morning but was not to be seen later. While her parents did approach the police to file a missing complaint on the same day, the cops they allege did not register a case since she was not a minor.

On April 16, Madhu’s parents got a call from Netaji Nagar Police Station stating that they had found their daughter’s Aadhaar card next to a body along with a suicide note.

Madhu’s father, Nagaraj Netaji, lodged a complaint at the police station that she had not committed suicide but was burnt and hung.

As news of the cold-blooded murder spread in the district, hundreds of locals took out a candle march and staged a protest demanding justice. Angry social media users have shared horrifying photos and alleged the victim was raped. A hashtag asking for justice for the young woman has been widely used.

Meanwhile the police have arrested one youth named Sudarshan Yadav based on suspicion by the girls’ parents. According to the police, the property on which the girl’s body was found belonged to Sudarshan’s father.
