Bengaluru: “Praise is a magnanimous gesture, but there is no need to read much into it”, said H.D.Deve Gowda, National President of Janata Dal (Secular) at a press meet organised by the Press Club of Bangalore and the Bangalore Reporter’s Guild. This comes as a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s shower of praises on him on Tuesday.
Responding to Mr. Modi’s rally in Belagavi, Mr. Gowda said that the Prime Minister did not address the Mahadayi issue or the agrarian crisis in Karnataka, choosing to remain silent on all the important issues. He contrasted Narendra Modi with BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee by connoting that the RSS and Gaurakshaks are more active when Modi is in power.
Mr. Gowda also criticised Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for taking repeated digs at the JD(S). But he also maintained that traditional Congress leaders always had tremendous respect for his party. He indicated that there would be no question of any alliance with the Congress for winning the polls.
