Bengaluru: Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr. Ashwathnarayan C. N. on Friday said that students surrendering their engineering seats late need not pay a fine amounting to five years’ fees.
The Minister said, “Due to the delay in the NEET exam, the penalty fee for students who have already secured an engineering seat & now are enrolling for a medical seat has been canceled. Institutions are advised to refund any amount collected in this regard. The exemption is applicable only for this year.”
The decision has been made only for this year, taking into account the fact that NEET was delayed as a case was under way in the Supreme Court over the EWS quota.
However, the Minister clarified that it is temporary and will be back in force from next year.
