A photo of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has surfaced on social media, wherein a book titled ‘How to Convert India into Christian Nation’ and a statue of Jesus Christ is visible on the bookshelf behind her.
The photo is said to have been shared by Twitter user @noconversion and has gained over 700 retweets.
According to Alt News, the photo is said to be a morphed one and has been taken from a video posted by Congress in October 2020, ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections.
After gaining access to the original photo, attributed to news agency PTI, it is evident that the book titled ‘How to convert India into Christian nation’ and a statue of Jesus Christ are not present on the bookshelf in the video and have been superimposed in the viral one.
Netizens condemned this act and many were upset about the fact that someone would go to these lengths to defame Sonia Gandhi.
This Morphed image was first shared by @noconversion at around 8 PM yesterday. It is currently viral on almost all the platforms. BJP members including @swamy39 amplified it by RTing. We’ve received several whatsapp requests since morning to Fact-check the image. ?? pic.twitter.com/hT1x0TNTXZ
