MCC elections till now

After getting upgraded into a corporation from a city municipality, the first elections of Mangaluru City Corporation were held in 1984 in which Congress won the election. Later in 1990, Congress won again. From 1995 60 1997, the administration of the corporation was in the hands of the administration officer. During the 1997 election, no party achieved a clear majority (BJP 24, JD(S) 6, Congress 30) and hence, Congress and JD(S) formed an alliance and took power. In 2002, Congress again won with 40 seats. Finally, in 2007, BJP won the power for the first time with 35 seats and Congress getting 20 seats. What is special is that, during the last year of the term, even though BJP had the majority, a mistake committed by them gave the mayor post to Gulzar Banu of Congress. In 2013, Congress once again won the administration and Mahabala Marla (2014-15), Jacintha Vijaya Alfred (2015-16), K Harinath (2016-17), Kavita Sanil (2017-18) and Bhaskar K (2018-19) became the mayors. Presently, administration officer is in duty.
