Balrampur: In a shocking incident, a woman and her family abandoned her newborn daughter at a government hospital hours after she was born, police said today.

The 28-year-old woman was admitted by her family members to the women’s hospital last evening and she later gave birth to the baby girl, they said.

This morning, the infant was found alone on the bed.

Efforts were made to look for the family but they were not found, they said, adding that the address mentioned in the hospital records was also found to be fake.

A doctor at the government hospital said the infant was suffering from jaundice and was moved to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) where she was undergoing treatment.

District Magistrate Rakesh Misra said efforts were on to trace the woman and her family.

The infant would be kept in the hospital till she fully recovers, the DM added.
