Nine booked for obstructing govt servants, destroying NRLM data

Belthangady: Acting on a complaint lodged by Machhina Gram Panchayat president Harshalata, Punjalkatte Police on Tuesday registered a case against nine residents from Kallugudde on the charge of obstructing government servants from collecting data under National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).
On Tuesday afternoon, Harshalata and three assistants appointed on contract basis for NRLM work were carrying out their exercise when Irfan, Abdul Rasheed, Rafik Bangerkatte, Nazir, Razak, Badruddin, Junaid, Hameed and Nawaz reportedly obstructed them and also deleted information related to NRLM stored in the mobile phone of Harshalata.
In her complaint, Harshalata alleged that she and her team were verbally abused and even posed with death threats.
Meanwhile the police have arrested Irfan and efforts are on to trace the others involved in the case.
A case has been registered under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
