Mangaluru: An international angling competition will be held at the northern breakwater of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on November 24th-25th. Numerous anglers from various countries including Germany, Belgium, Dubai and other countries will take part in this competition.
The city witnessed its maiden international angling competition last year, which was held at NMPT breakwaters in association with NMPT and Panambur Beach Project and various other organizations. This year too, the angling competition is being organized under the leadership of the same organisations. The fishes caught in the competition are not allowed to be taken along. As soon as the fist gets caught to the bait, it is weighed and left back into the waters.
There is opportunity for 20 people to attempt angling from the 1 km stretch of the breakwaters for a period of one hour. Groups of 20 individuals each will be created for the competitions. An hour’s time will be allotted per group. During this period, whoever catches the heaviest weighing fish will be given the first, second and third prize. There is also a first place and second place award for catching the highest number of fishes. The two days competition is expected to host close to 200 competitors at the rate of 20 member groups per hour for five hours on one day totaling to 100 individuals.
Tourism development
“The motive behind the organizing the angling competition at NMPT breakwaters is with the aim to provide special importance to developing tourism along all the beaches coming within Mangaluru limits. This competition has being conducted on November 24th and 25th and is expecting the participation of national and international competitors,” said Yathish Baikampady, CEO, Beach Tourism Development Project.
