No quarantine for fully-vaccinated Indian travellers to UK from Oct 11

New Delhi: Taking a U-turn from its earlier stance, the UK on Thursday announced that fully vaccinated Indians entering the country need not spend time in quarantine.

In the latest easing of restrictions, The UK announced that it will scrap COVID-19 quarantine travel rules for 47 countries, including India, from Monday, October 11. The latest announcement ends the dispute over the perceived unfair imposition of COVID-19 quarantine rules.

Earlier, travelers from India were left out of the quarantine expedition list of the UK, even though AstraZeneca Covishield was among the vaccines that were approved in the new British rules. This resulted in unfair treatment of people who got their Covishield shots in India.

This anomaly has been rectified now. Indian passengers who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or any other UK-approved vaccine need not be quarantined when they arrive in Britain from October 11, the High Commissioner to India said.

The announcement was made by the British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis by a tweet that read, “No quarantine for Indian travellers to the United Kingdom fully vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine from 11 October. Thanks to Indian government for close cooperation over last month.”
