Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said that there are no reported cases of coronavirus in the city hence there is no need for any alarm and every precaution necessary to prevent the spread of the virus, if found, is being taken.
District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao also said that there is no scientifically proven cure for the virus and supportive care for those infected with the virus is highly effective.
Rao further advised, “Wash your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay home when you are sick, and cover your mouth when you cough or use a tissue while sneezing. Throw the used tissue in the dustbin. Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently.”
Meanwhile, Zilla Panchayat CEO R Selvamani added that posts on cures for coronavirus which are not scientifically proven are being shared on social media, the general public must not follow such advisories without verifying the facts.
“Programmes will be held spreading awareness on how the virus spreads and the preventive measures to be taken,” added Selvamani.
