Mangaluru: Following the death of a sophomore student in an accident near Nanthnoor junction on NH 66, Mangaluru East Traffic police issued a notice to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) holding its officials responsible for the accident.
The notice was issued based on a complaint of criminal negligence registered by a city-based activist.
The student, identified as Karthik Mallya, had died on the spot.
The stretch of road between Padua college and Nanthnoor junction has degraded due to shoddy construction work with wave-like grooves forming on the surface of the road.
NHAI has stated to the police that due to shortages of bitumen the asphalting work on the said road was delayed and they will repair the roads as soon as possible.
