Bengaluru: English will become a medium of education at 3770 upper primary schools in the state in an attempt to prevent the number dropouts from government schools in Karnataka, said state Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait speaking in a press conference here in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The government has taken necessary steps to teach English as a language from first standard and it would become a medium of education from sixth standard on wards in selected schools, the minister said. The state government already permitted to provide education in English as a medium of education in 2011. However, following limited number of availability of English teachers forced the education department to postpone to implement English as a medium of education from sixth standard. As part of the initiative, a total of 5200 English teachers trained for teaching this year, the minister said.
